I've been a military flight sim enthusiastfor years, starting with Falcon 3. I've bought and installed MS FlightSimulators during those years but quickly uninstalled them all becausethey left me unexcited.
Being a glutton for punishment and hope springing eternal, I installedFSX a few days ago and was pleasantly surprised to feel a tingle ofexcitement. The cloud effects were good, the feel of flight was good,but I still had a hard time suspending disbelief (which, after all, iswhat makes both good theater and good simming possible). A militaryflight sim offers tasks other than flying to distract my attention fromthe artificial environment I'm flying through. A sim like FSX, on theother hand, holds no such distractions. So, the tingle was there but...
Enter REX. I loaded the REX cloud textures, jumped into the FSX cockpitand--oh my god!--it's real! Or feels so nearly so that I can now flyFSX for the pure enjoyment of it. I don't need those distractions anymore. In fact, please don't distract me at all. I'm flying!
