Installation (SF2):
Simply extract each folder into the matching folders in your mod directory. If you installed an ordnance pack, you may already have some of the sounds.
The model has not been tested in the SF1 series, but should work with minor modifications.
Optional procedures:
You may wish to download my Naval Threat Library for the ship's radar to show up on your RWR displays. By default, this vessel is treated as a patrol boat for radar signature purposes. You may change it to frigate if you deem it more fitting.
If you do not already have the sounds installed, add this data to your soundlist.ini:
[ShipMovement]
Priority=LOW
3DSound=TRUE
DopplerEffect=FALSE
Looped=TRUE
FrequencyControl=FALSE
NumBuffers=2
MaxDist=2500.000000
MinDist=100.000000
InsideConeAngle=360
OutsideConeAngle=360
ConeOutsideVolume=0
Designer notes:
This model represents the first Littoral Combat Ship, USS Freedom, in commission with the US Navy since 2008. These vessels are designed to be fast, stealthy, and highly modular. This vessel can exceed 47 knots and has a very low radar cross section.
At present, these vessels are equipped with a 57mm gun, two 30mm autocannons, four .50 caliber machine guns, and a 21-cell RAM missile launcher. This vessel's lack of long-range firepower has been a source of significant criticism, but the in-game model is fairly dangerous up close.
Eventually, the real vessel will be equipped with various mission modules, such as the NLOS missiles. Not enough information is currently available for these features to be added to the model. Stay tuned for future modifications.
The Freedom class uses Lockheed-Martin's COMBATSS-21 combat management system, based on the Aegis system. As such, the game model is wired for the Aegis network and will share sensor data with Ticonderogas and other fleet elements.
While the real life RIM-116B RAM has a passive radar homing mode in addition to IR (for engaging radar-guided anti-ship missiles), this cannot be modelled in-game, so they are pure heat-seekers. It is still a very effective SAM, with a motor based on the Sidewinder and seeker based on the Stinger.
Provisions have been made on the flight deck for up to two medium helicopters. Because the AI can't use thrust vectoring properly and has other issues about taking off and landing on ships, fake catapults and arresting wires have been fitted to the model.
Known issues:
A flight deck is enabled by default for both versions of the ship. This allows up to two helicopers to take off from and land on the deck, but renders the ship unsinkable. If you wish to disable this feature and make the ship a non-invincible target, open the data.ini and comment out "SystemName[002]=flightdeck" "SystemName[003]=Cat1" and "SystemName[004]=Cat2" under the [Hull] section.
This model has not been fully tested for operating large helos or VTOL aircraft, so please exercise caution.
